The Maldives

The Maldives is a tropical paradise comprising of about 26 atolls.  All atolls are made up of a group of smaller islands.  In total there are 1190 islands.  Only selected islands are inhabited and only a few have hotels built on them.  Each island is surrounded by an exotic marine-life enriched coral reef, offering excellent diving and snorkelling opportunities.  The reefs surrounding the islands ensures a protected lagoon around each island offering stunning, clear turquoise water and the softest, whitest beaches.  What more can you expect in Paradise?  The Maldives is such a unique destination and is many traveller's dream destination.  It will easly succeed in leaving anyone speechless...

Each island varies in size, and one of the many advantages are that each island only have one hotel on it and the islands are often small enough to walk around in about 30 minutes to an hour.  The only inhabitants on a tourist insland are the hotel staff that run the resort.  Another unique feature is that this destination is one of the only that offer accommodation on stilts over water.  This ensures the experience of a lifetime and is really different.  The guests staying at the resorts on islands located in close enough proximity to the main island of Male (international airport) will be transferred to their resort via speedboat.
The guests staying at resorts on island located too far from the main island, will be flown via sea-plane to their resort.  This promises another exotic and exciting experience to view the Maldives from above.

Zanzibar Honeymoon

I believe we made the perfect choice for our honeymoon. A honeymoon in Paradise – Zanzibar.

Upon our arrival in Zanzibar, the first thing I felt was the atmosphere of a tropical island. This made me feel very excited! I could not wait to arrive at our hotel.

This was only the beginning of honeymoon memories that will last us a lifetime!
We were met by our transfer and taken to our hotel timeously. The most popular resorts are situated upon the North-East coastline of Zanzibar – upon a true paradise palm fringed stretch of beach. The beach is idyllic with powder-soft white sand and the water is crystal clear. Our hotel – 4* Ocean Paradise – was also located here.

The first thing that caught our attention was the large, stunning, modern reception area. We received a welcome drink upon our arrival and had a look around.

The resort is set within stunning gardens with thousands of palms throughout the resort - paradise!

I could not stop taking photos of all the palm trees towering far above the highest of buildings.

We were taken to our bungalow-style room, which was located in the hotel garden. The room was spacious and had a large bathroom with a shower.
All the bungalows are spread throughout the hotel gardens.

Everything about the resort was immaculate. We thoroughly enjoyed the resort cuisine. Breakfast and Dinners was buffet style – offering an enormous variety of food, all of excellent standards. We totally over-ate ourselves… We were on half-board basis as this specific resort does not have an all inclusive meal option. Guests can however upgrade to Full Board (breakfast, lunch and dinner), which might be a good idea as food and drinks are expensive (about 2-3 times as expensive as in SA).
This is a very nice resort for couples – and that is exactly why we chose it. There is however recently some other new resorts in the area, which might be a better value for money option in comparison to Ocean Paradise, which are standard All Inclusive.
Something we really enjoyed, was sitting in the pool-bar of the resort’s enormous swimming pool while enjoying our cocktails.
There are so many things to do in Zanzibar. The activities we chose to do were a snorkeling trip to the nearby Mnemba reef, which was really a stunning experience. We also took a half-day tour to visit Stone Town, which was a really interesting. The rest of our time was spent lazing around on the stunning beach, swimming and exploring.

We stayed a total of 7 nights and returned home with a good golden tan and loads of great memories.

I can highly recommend Zanzibar to anybody who is looking for a different, magical island experience!

Zanzibar - Truly Exotic

Zanzibar - Also known as Unguja - The Spice Island...

Zanzibar is an exotic island paradise comprising of miles of endless powder-white palm-fringed beaches.  The island is located a mere 40kilometers off the coast of Tanzania and measures 85kilometers in length and 30kilometers in width.

The island is still very uncommercialized and if you are up for a break from the ordinary and in need of an escape from your daily chaotic lifestyle - Zanzibar is the island to escape to.
Most resorts are located just off the stunning beach front and presents magnificent views over the Indian Ocean, while offering rustic charm and warm hospitality.

Due to its close proximity to the equator, weather conditions are favourable almost all year round with warm to hot climate conditions.  It is advisable to avoid Zanzibar during the months of April - June, due to this being the monsoon period where the long rains fall.

South-African passport holders require a visa for entry, which can be obtained upon your arrival at 50US$, as well as yellow-fever innoculations 10 days prior to departure from South-Africa.  Zanzibar is also a Malaria risk zone, thereofre Malaria precautions are highly recommended.

Stone Town is the capital town of Zanzibar and is one of the only ancient cities functioning in East Africa and therefore a great attraction.  Stone Town is famous for its large doors and  they are called "Zanzibar doors."

There are a lot of activities to indulge in on your visit to Zanzibar - from an unforgettable experience of swimming with the Dolphins in the south, to visiting the famous indigenous Jozani Forest - home to the endangered Colubus monkey.  Be it diving the stunning reefs to discover the magnificent underwater world this island hides in the depths of its ocean, or snorkelling the stunning shallow reefs...Why not visit the spice and tea plantations or the ancient Stone Town for an interesting experience on the local life and culture of Zanzibar.

If you are in need of an unforgettable island break-away, you cannot go wrong with this magnificent island - Zanzibar.

Seychelles - Some of the worlds most beautiful islands

The Seychelles...

Another World...The officlial motto of the Seychelles.  This cannot be more true.  The Seychelles is truely a destination that is out of this world - an archipelago of roughly 115 islands scattered in the heart of the Indian Ocean.  Magical, stunning, beautiful, breathtaking, amazing and spectacular are words not even strong enough to describe the Seychelles.

The Seychelles is known for the most exotic and rare plant and animal life as well as for its stunning palm fringed beaches and clear turqoise waters and exotic marine life.  The destination offers a variety of things to do including a range of water and land activities (including a visit to VallĂ©e de Mai, home to the legendary Coco-de-Mer) or why not spend a day in the smallest capital in the World - Victoria.  One of the most exciting experiences is doing some island hopping between the islands.  Each island has its own character and offers a different experience altogether.

A wide range of accommodations are on offer for those lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit the Seychelles.  There are 3* up to luxury 5* Exclusive hotels are on offer.

Flights to and from the Seychelles are about 4 hours and currently depart twice weekly from O.R Tambo International Airport, on a Friday and Sunday.  These flights are overnight and guests will arrive in the Seychelles the following day.

The Seychelles cannot be compared to any other destination!  It is so unique and such an experience, it is difficult to put it into the right words - it is something you have to experience for yourself.  One thing is for sure, if you are up for some romance, you cannot go wrong in the Seychelles.  The magical island atmosphere is perfect to share with that special someone.

The Seychelles climiate is ideal for all year travel as the destiantion enjoys a tropical climate throughout the year and is located outside of the hurricane belt and therefore not prone to monsoon periods, altough specific periods might be better for specific locations in the Seychelles due to trade winds during selected periods of the year and the best period for diving is between March-May and September-November.

No visas, innoculations or Malaria precautions are currently required by South-African passport holiders for entry into the Seychelles, making it a very accessible destination to visit.  Travellers should be sure that their passports are valid for at least 6 months from return date.

When we visited the Seychelles, we stayed at the 5* Exclusive Sainte Anne Resort, a Beachcomber property.  What an experience and what a resort!  This resort is located on its own island - Sainte Anne Island, which is a great advantage for privacy and luxury.  We did some island hopping to Mahe, Praslin and La Digue and visited some of the most popular tourist attractions including the Vallee de Mai on Praslin Island, a visit to the capital of Victoria on Mahe Island, Visited the stunning beach of Anze Lazio on Praslin Island - one of the most spectacular beaches in the world as well as La Digue's stunning beaches and rock formations.  We took a ferry to La Digue from the main island - Mahe and from there to Praslin. After our very adventurous day we took a short 15min transfer flight back to Mahe, which was beyond awesome, because you have the opportunity to also view these stunning islands from the air!! What an experience and I am well travelled and can say with confidence that this is by far one of the the most stunning destinations I have ever been to and if you are looking for the experience of a lifetime, you cannot go wrong with the Seychelles!  Whatch this space for more on our adventures to the stunning Seychelles!!

The Seychelles, it is truely "out of this world"...
